Todd Vance toyed with the idea of acting for most of his life but it wasn’t until last year that he took a leap of faith and entered the world of theater and film acting. In that short time, he’s already been in four films as well as commercials and music videos.
When did you first develop an interest in acting?
As far back as I can remember, I have wanted to act. But as a Christian, for most of my life I have felt that this was not something I could ever really do.
What was your first acting role?
Right around my 40th birthday I was mulling over my age (obviously) and felt that it was now or never for me to enter acting. That very night I emailed my local community theater to find out when they were doing auditions for their next show (I was still a little nervous and was hoping to ‘ease’ into it). The next morning I received an email back telling me that ‘tonight’ was the last night for auditions for the last show of the year. They told me to just come down and watch if that’s all I wanted to do, which is all I planned on doing. However, when I showed up a friend of mine with experience with the theater was there. He put me on the spot to get up and give a short monologue. I did and walked out with a substantial role in the play. This was my first role.
What films have you been a part of?
This is my first year doing this and yet, I been blessed to have attained roles in 4 films (all of which are either faith-based or family friendly). The Good Book, To Say Goodbye, Meaningful Life (short film), and Shakespeare School Year.
What was it like as a former pastor playing a drunk in The Good Book?
Great and not great. This is relevant and real… I was very happy to represent a real scenario that happens in non-believers (as well as believers) lives. I have always told my daughters who also entered acting with me (and also appear in The Good Book movie) that we need to be real and relevant so we can touch the lost. As a former and maybe future Pastor, I never want to just appeal to current believers, we have to be relevant. However, I did find it challenging to play a role of someone who might, in real life, hurt his children.
What other acting besides film have you done?
I feel like I’ve had a great first year. I have been able to do several commercials one of which ran nationally on CMT. Additionally, I have been in several music videos. And of course, there was my first, and one of my favorites, the theater role.
What do you do when you’re not acting?
Well my ‘job’ is a remote computer programmer/web developer but my Twitter description sums who I am best I think…Christian, Husband, Father, Patriot, Actor, Programmer, Tinkerer. Those are in order of importance, by the way. 😉
Well it is a very exciting time to be a Christian and involved in the entertainment industry. More than ever before, the world needs to hear The Message. It’s absolutely mind blowing to be a tiny part of that. So thank you Sharon and Faith Flix for this opportunity and for your work!
