Jackie Carpenter – Writer

Jackie Carpenter never intended to be an author. But when tragedy overtook her family and God granted them an amazing miracle, she knew she had to share her story so that others that are in the depths of despair could find encouragement in her story of hope. Jackie’s true life story is shared in her books The Bridge and Georgia Justice and in the upcoming movie Stand Your Ground, coming to theaters January 17, 2014.

First, give us a brief synopsis of the story behind Stand Your Ground.

This is a movie based on my two books: The Bridge and Georgia Justice. These books give an actual account of what happened on the night of June 27th 2008 with my youngest son, 28-year-old Jason Veitch, married with a 6-year-old little boy and called into the ministry six months prior. After being robbed of copper seventeen times, a young deputy met him at the construction site to give advice on copper theft.  Advising my son to hide in the woods and watch, telling him if anyone showed up to call 911, and he would have patrolmen in the area who would be there in five minutes or less. What could go wrong?  It sounded like a foolproof plan. This story shows how everything can go wrong, and only God can make it right. It covers the ten month period as my son was arrested, charged with felony murder, three counts aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm. There was No Way Out!  That’s when God prefers to show up!

What led to your decision to share your story with the rest of the world?

I promised God during this ten month period if He would deliver my son back to his family, I would share it with the world; and I meant every word of my promise to God!

What was the greatest challenge with sharing your story with others?

Sharing what God can do is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life.  We are surrounded by people who don’t need help, they need miracles, and I love telling them where to go for that miracle.

When you receive a miracle of this magnitude you cannot hide it, even though you would like to bury your head in the sand, and never face the world again. Miracles are not granted to be hid, but to be shared.

How closely does the movie adhere to the actual events?

Ten months have been reduced to two hours of nonstop emotion. It is very close to the actual events.  The court transcripts are taken directly from the original court transcripts.

What was it like watching someone else play yourself?

God sent Francine Locke directly to me.  I loved every second that I could watch her in action. She will tell you that I have already given her the Emmy!

What has been the response to the book/movie?
The overwhelming majority all say the same thing:  The books and the movie are life changing!

What is your vision for the book/movie?

God’s ways are so much higher than my ways. I never envisioned writing a book, then two books, and I certainly never saw a movie.  God spoon feeds me little by little. He only lets me see one piece at a time.  He knows I can’t handle it all at once!

Anything else?

There are millions out there in hopeless situations.  Like myself they are going down for the third time. God is about to throw them all a lifeline!
