If you watch enough movies, especially faith-based, they start to blend together. Not so with Holey Matrimony. I can honestly say it is nothing like any other movie I’ve seen.

Holey Matrimoney movie review

Holey Matrimony is a period movie that takes place in 1948. It’s a screwball comedy that is so eccentric and out there that it’s hilarious.I had no idea what to expect, which was good because it was totally unexpected. I don’t recall the last time I laughed so much during a movie. I think what made it so funny is that writer/director/producer/editor/star Diana Lenska doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s not afraid to have fun with the period genre and play it to the extreme.

Holey Matrimony started out as a theatrical production and was then adapted to film which gives it a distinct stage feel. The writing and acting is also more stage style than film. But that goes along with the period of the movie, as 1940’s movies do have a more exaggerated writing and acting style.

I must warn that the filmmaker in me did cringe quite a bit over the sound and cinematography, but the originality of the story and the unique approach made it a pleasant viewing experience for me despite the weaknesses. And the fact that Diana Lenska was able to wear so many hats and pull it off is quite impressive.

I found the movie to be a fun and silly, lighthearted entertainment for the evening.
