It’s hard not to feel happy when you’re in the presence of flowers. Whether it’s a bouquet of fresh roses on the table, a hydrangea bush next to your porch, or even wildflowers growing along the roadside, they give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
When planning the wardrobe for our movie Flowers for Fannie, we used flowers to represent the character arc of Fannie (Patricia Binkley). In the beginning, she was stuck in a rut of bitterness, so we had her completely in black. Then we introduced Louise (Brittany Herd), a young woman bringing a bit of sunshine to Fannie’s life. Louise wore flowers throughout the movie. Slowly, as the two formed a friendship and Fannie softened, her wardrobe transitioned to floral prints as well.
While you may not be bold enough to wear bright floral patterns all the time, no reason why you can’t have a hint of fun by adding vintage flower pins to your wardrobe. They come in a wide assortment of colors and styles and can usually be found for under $10 at your local flea market or antique mall.
