As a soon-to-be grandmother, I’ve begun adding children’s books to my review repertoire. I’m finding there are some great Bible study and devotional books available nowadays, which is pretty cool because I don’t remember so many choices when my daughter was little.

How Great Is Our God Louie Giglio

How Great Is Our God is a unique devotional in that it combines spiritual teaching with science. Honestly, it looks and feels more like a homeschool textbook than a devotional book. Each of the 100 lessons includes a scripture verse, a science lesson that ties in with the scripture verse, and a prayer. It all flows together and ties in so perfectly. I’m reminded of one of my daughter’s science teachers at her homeschool tutorial who taught her students that truth is truth and there’s no distinction between scientific truth and God’s truth. God’s truth is amazing science. That’s what How Great Is Our God teaches.

I found so many things to like about this book. First, the layout. You can use How Great Is Our God in a number of ways. You can read it chronologically one lesson a day as a morning or evening devotional. You can also use it to go along with your science lessons. The introduction breaks down the lessons into four topics of study – space, earth, animals, and people.

If I were homeschooling an elementary student, I would probably create unit studies for our science that would tie in with these devotions. I can imagine using this book as a launching pad for many happy hours of science studies and spiritual conversations.

I love the appearance of How Great Is Our God. It’s a thick, sturdy book with a child friendly cover. The lessons include colorful cartoon drawings, fun fonts for the titles, and photographs to illustrate the scientific principles.

The publisher is offering a giveaway, so if you’d like your own copy, be sure to register to win. Or you may want to buy copies for all the children in your life. This would make a great Christmas gift. I suspect it’s one a chid would treasure and read over and over.
