A year ago if you’d asked me what a podcast was, I really couldn’t have told you. I probably would have said it was like a radio show that you could listen to anytime you wanted. But I wasn’t exactly clear how you listened to them. Even though I’d done a number of podcast interviews to promote our movies, and I’d share about the interviews, I never could figure out how you were supposed to listen to them. I thought they were just a phone thing that you had to listen to on your iphones. I had no idea that podcasts were accessible to anyone.
Six months ago I launched All God’s Women and discovered the world of podcasts. Wow! What a wonderful resource just waiting to be discovered by new audiences. Perhaps you’re like I used to be, and you don’t quite understand podcasts and how they work. If so, on this International Podcast Day let me explain the podcast world so you can fall in love with podcasts as well.
What is a podcast?
A podcast is an audio program focused on a specific topic. While the majority are interview style with one or more hosts interviewing a different guest each episode, there are also solo and audio drama formats as well. Some are entertainment only. Others are educational as well. They each have their own unique style and genre.
How do I listen to podcasts?
There are so many podcast options. If you have an iphone you can listen on Apple Podcasts. If you have an android phone you can choose from Spotify, Pocket Casts, DoggCatcher, Podcast Addict or others. If you’re like me and prefer to listen on your computer, options include Podchaser, Google Podcasts, iHeart Radio, RadioPublic, Overcast, Castbox, and the brand new Amazon Podcasts. Many podcasts like All God’s Women allow you to listen directly on the podcast website via embedded players.
Why should I listen to podcasts?
Podcasts are a great way to expand your knowledge and explore all kinds of topics – comedy, history, marriage, parenting, finance, travel, and an unlimited number of niche subjects. Whatever your interest, there’s a podcast to enjoy and learn from.
How do I explore podcasts? Is there a way to search them?
Each of the podcast platforms has their own search engines, but my newbie-friendly favorite is Podchaser. It lets you search not only podcasts but episodes and creators as well as user lists. Podchaser is the podcast equivalent of IMDb. Search me on Podchaser and you’ll find my lists including Podcasts for Christian Women and Bible Study Podcasts.
How do I follow podcasts?
Each platform has an option to follow or subscribe to your favorite podcasts. This allows you to receive notifications as new episodes release or to find them in your feed.
What podcasts should I listen to?
Well, personally, I would recommend All God’s Women. Other podcasts for Christian women include Make Life Matter With Angela Donadio, Your Spiritual Game Plan with Cheri Fletcher, The Biblical Woman, Letters From Home, Fierce Calling, and Perspective Transformation. You can also check out the great lineup at Christian Podcast Community.
How do I let others know about my favorite podcasts?
Many of the podcasts have options to rate and reviews podcasts or individual episodes. You can comment directly on the podcast websites. You can also share social media shoutouts to your favorite podcasts.
I hope this helps. If you have any podcast questions, feel free to ask. I’m still learning, but if I don’t know the answer, I know plenty of people who do.
So tell me, how long have you been listening to podcasts and what are your favorites?
