Today is the perfect day to curl up on the couch with a good book, and if you’re looking for a book to read, have I got a recommendation for you! The Love Note by Joanna Davidson Politano released this week. It’s a historic novel set in 1860’s England. It’s a love story, but so much more than that.
Soon after refusing her fourth marriage proposal, Willa Duvall discovers a forgotten love letter in a crack of her old writing desk. As she seeks to uncover its author and intended recipient, she follows a trail through past secrets and deep family shadows. Politano takes us through unlimited twists and turns, acquainting us with each of the residents of Chestwicke Manor, yet with each introduction, offering us more questions than answers. In the end, even though we’re left satisfied with the ending, the characters linger in our minds, allowing us to imagine what remains in their future.
I was blessed to get to review Joanna Davidson Politano’s Finding Lady Everly, so I was excited to have the opportunity to review this one as well. I wasn’t disappointed. It was every bit as delightful.
What I love the most about Politano’s work is the way she so effortlessly transports us to far away lands in distant time periods. Judiciously inserting period details that are integral to the story and avoiding anything superfluous , she creates timeless stories based on characters who live on forever in the minds of her readers.
The Love Note is an excellent addition to your Christian historic fiction collection.
