This weekend filmmakers from around the country gathered for the Aletheia Fellowship of the Arts Truth Awards. This was the second year for the event and we were among several filmmakers from last year returning with our latest films.
Run by Daryl Hall of MissionWorx Films, The Truth Awards is not a festival but instead an appreciation and worship event for Christian filmmakers. Approximately sixty films were submitted with the top twelve being recognized with beautiful trophies.
The evening kicked off with a time of fellowship with old and new friends. As we entered, we were greeted by Cynthia Leon, one of the returning filmmakers from last year. We were soon joined by the SISTERS filmmakers and we all talked shop, about the International Christian Film Festival last week, and about distribution.
Daryl opened up the awards ceremony with prayer. Due to a series of emergencies, his emcee and assistants had been unexpectedly called out of town at the last minute so he found himself center stage instead of working behind the scenes like he preferred. But God was in control and it all worked out.
As individuals received awards, each person shared stories of God at work in the films. It was a time of rejoicing in God’s blessings. Intermixed with the award presentations was musical entertainment and worship led by Xandria Cross.
Following the ceremony everyone adjoined to the next room for a delicious catered meal and more fellowship time. I enjoyed the opportunity to visit with old friends Sheri Brooks, Donald Parker, and Courtney Simpson, as well as meeting in person familiar faces like Skeeta Jenkins, Heather Fairbanks and Matthew Ulm.
I appreciate all the work that Daryl put into the Truth Awards. His heart is to show appreciation and to treat filmmakers to a special evening, and despite the unforeseen emergencies, I do believe everyone went home blessed and inspired.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, PROVIDENCE won Best Editing (Fred Wilharm) and Best Original Music Score (Sean O’Bryan Smith), and we were honored with the Shibboleth Award for Visionary Leadership in the Field of Christian Filmmaking.
