Today we look at Azubah, another mother whose influence weighed heavy on her son. Azubah was the wife of King Asa and mother of Jehoshaphat. She’s mentioned twice.
Johoshaphat became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 1 Kings 22:42 tells us he was thirty five years old when he became king and he reigned for twenty five years in Jerusalem. Then in verse 43 it tells us that his mother’s name was Azubah and he walked in all the ways of his father Asa and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
The same information is repeated in 2 Chronicles 20:31.
What if your life were evaluated based on your relationship with your children? What if the account of your life was, she was the mother of___________… Would the next sentence be, and he or she did right in the eyes of the Lord or would it be, and he or she did evil in the eyes of the Lord? Or maybe it would be like Haggith yesterday when it said, and he exalted himself.
Our children have free will. They won’t always go in the direction we lead. But if we do our best, our influence will be felt. It may take awhile. We may never see this side of eternity. But the godly leading of a righteous mother is never in vain.
Lord God, continue to be with our mothers today. Guide them. Direct their paths. Give them the strength to do right even when it’s hard. Hold them tight when their children disappoint or fall short. Remind them that it’s not over yet and that Your timing is not the same as ours. Forgive us when we lose sight and grow impatient. Thank you for loving us and setting a perfect example for us to follow. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
