On our final day of National Podcast Month, let’s take a few moments to look at one verse in Isaiah that leads into the Women of Christmas series. The verse is found in Isaiah 7:14. Perhaps you’re familiar with it. It’s mentioned often in Christmas pageants.
In Isaiah 7:14 Isaiah prophesied, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
In chapter 9 verse 16, he said, “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Over 600 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah, told us that Mary, a virgin, would bear a child who would come to save the world.
600 years. That’s a long time, at least for us. But with God, it’s just a drop in the bucket.
In these days of uncertainty, it’s so difficult to see what the future holds. It may look pretty dark and grim, just as it did for the people of Judah when Isaiah made this prophecy to King Ahaz. But God knows the future. And the future is light. As Christians with access to the Bible, we know how the story ends. So don’t be discouraged. Keep your eyes on Him, and we will lead you to that light.
Lord God, thank You for this word of encouragement. Thank you for reminding us that even though we may be in a time of darkness, that You triumph over the dark. You are light. You are love. Thank You for loving us. Forgive us when we lose faith and give in to discouragement. Guide us in the way You would have us to go. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
