Casting, Costumes, Cars, and More – Summer of ’67

Filmmaking is like a roller coaster ride at an amusement park. You begin by watching from a distance and wondering if you’re brave enough to do it yourself. Then, once you work up your courage, you hop aboard, wait for others to join you, buckle up, then brace yourself as you climb to the heavens and plummet to the depths. It’s a wild ride that will leave you terrified, exhausted, but at the same time, begging for more.

We spent the past month focused on gathering our team. We sorted through hundreds of submissions, prayed over each role, and determined who was the best fit for each role. It’s so much more than just selecting the best actors. It’s a matter of choosing the best overall cast, which means picking actors who will work well together, who don’t look the same, who can pass as couples, as families, who are the right height (is he taller than her, but not too much?), and most importantly, who are passionate about this particular project.  While we’re still lining up background actors, I’m excited to report that principal casting is complete, and we have an amazing cast! It’s a mix of familiar faces and emerging talent, all incredibly gifted in what they do.

Now that casting’s complete, the real work begins – getting ready for filming. Since this is a historic story, it means period correct costumes, sets, and vehicles, so that’s what we’re working on now. We’ve actually been acquiring items for months, but now the race is on to get everything else we need in the short time we have left. The house is overrun with clothes, props, and furniture, and a VW bus has made its way to our driveway.

So that’s where we are. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this filmmaking adventure.
