Saturday, June 25, 2016 will go down as a night where God surprised us in the most unexpected way possible. We entered PROVIDENCE in the ICVM Crown Awards competition with much trepidation. We knew that ICVM was the industry organization and that the previous winners were top of the line films. But we took a chance and submitted.
When we received word that we were nominated for four awards, we assumed that everyone was automatically nominated in each category they were eligible. Then we got the nominations list and were astonished to see our film listed alongside impressive names like WAR ROOM, BEYOND THE MASK, and UNTIL FOREVER. We were excited to attend the event just to be in such great company, honored to be nominated, and not expecting to actually win any awards.
We kicked off the evening with a delicious meal.
The program opened with an introduction by ICVM President Dianne Becker and entertainment by South Africa Idol winner Heinz Winckler.
Each award was presented by a leader in the Christian entertainment world.
First we won the bronze award for Best Youth Film.
Then gold for Best Drama Under $250,000.
Then silver for Best Evangelistic Film.
And finally…
WE WON THE BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST PICTURE!
I never prayed that we would win. I didn’t want to be presumptuous, so I prayed that God would use the awards for His glory. I think we can safely say that a simple little silent love story winning four Crown awards is definitely due to God, and to Him we give all the glory!
