Jesus had much that he wanted to tell the Samaritan woman. He told her to bring her husband to him. Of course, Jesus knew she had no husband. He also knew she’d been married five times, and the man she was currently living with was not her husband.
The woman figured out he must be a prophet, so she asked him a question. “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” (John 4:20)
He told her neither is where you worship the Father. “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Though this woman was a Samaritan and not a Jew, she knew about the promised Messiah called Christ. She knew that when he came, he would tell them all things.
Jesus let her know that he was that promised Messiah.
The woman hurried into town. She told everyone there about the man she met who knew all about her. She asked if he might be the Christ? The townspeople followed her to the well to find out for themselves. As a result, many Samaritans believed in him and were saved because of the Samaritan woman’s testimony.
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, God can use you to change your world.
