You know it’s a good movie when you find yourself so caught up in the story that you start praying for the characters. That was the case while watching The Redemption of Henry Myers. Wow! What a powerful story that kept me captivated from the opening credits to the end. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch a pre-screener, but this is a movie that I’ll have to get on DVD so I can watch it over and over.
I don’t know that I’ve ever watched a full western film. I remember my dad watching John Wayne movies when I was young, but even though I love historical fiction, I’ve never run across a western that interested me. Until now.
The movie opens with snippets of life in the wild west – a rattle snake, townspeople, horses and buggies. Then an intense scene with a bank robbery and murder. When the heist goes wrong and his outlaw friends betray him and leave him for dead, Henry Myers (Drew Waters) finds extraordinary kindness from a widow named Marilyn (Erin Bethea) and her children.
With the influence of this family, Henry begins to question the choices he’s made. Just when things begin to make sense again, his old gang shows up.
The Redemption of Henry Myers is made to the highest standards of writing, acting, and cinematography. I expected quality acting from Drew and Erin, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised, though, by the level of talent from the two child actors. Jaden Roberts brings such a sweet innocence to her role of Laura and Ezra Proch convincingly transitions from bitter to loving to angry to loving again. So much time and effort into making this a beautifully and visually appealing film. The sets and costumes are period appropriate. The cinematography breathtaking. And tying it all together is an incredible score.
This is a movie that audiences of all ages can enjoy. You’ll want to pop some corn, gather together on the couch, and enjoy a night of family entertainment. Get your copy June 10 when it’s released to DVD.

I absolutely LOVE this movie!!! I pre-ordered it months before it came out on DVD and literally counted down the days until I got it. I watched the trailer so many times that I pretty much figured out what happened, but I was not disapointed and it was worth the wait!!!!
