Over 600 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah, told us that Mary, a virgin, would bear a child who would come to save the world.
In Isaiah 7:14 Isaiah prophesied, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
In chapter 9 verse 6, he provided more information about the coming Messiah.
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The prophet Micah foretold where Jesus would be born.
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.” (Micah 5:2)
It’s so easy for us to get caught up in the now. All we see is what’s happening to us at the moment. But God sees the big picture. He knows what’s coming tomorrow and in the days ahead.
We serve the Creator of the World, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father. Just as he encouraged the people of Isaiah and Micah’s days, letting them know that He had a plan for a glorious future, He continues to prepare us for the future He has in store for us.
This Christmas season may we keep our eyes lifted upward, trusting our Savior to guide us to Him, just as He led the wise man to Bethlehem all those many years ago.
