Lamech was the seventh generation from Adam on Cain’s side. On Seth’s side, Enoch was the seventh generation from Adam. Lamech, a polygamist and murderer, showed the deterioration of morals in the ungodly line. Enoch, on the other hand, was so godly that God took him up to heaven without him having to undergo death.
Enoch was sixty five-years-old when he fathered Methuselah. Genesis 5:22 tells us “After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.”
And then, Genesis 5:24, “And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”
One day Enoch was living his life. The next day, God swept him up to heaven with no warning. Enoch had a family, a wife, sons, and daughters. What was it like for them when Enoch suddenly disappeared? Did they have a clue what was going on?
We know nothing about Enoch’s family other than his son Methuselah who longer than anyone else in the Bible. But what about his wife? What kind of woman was she?
Since the Bible is clear that Enoch walked with God, we can assume he chose a godly woman to spend his life with. But some Bible scholars point out that it says he walked with God after fathering Methuselah. What was he like before then? Was he living a life of sin and then had a Road to Damascus experience when his son was born? If so, how might his wife had responded to the change?
We have no idea what tomorrow holds. Who knows but our life will be forever changed? May we walk closely with God so that no matter what happens, we are ready.
