Generation to Generation

Let me open by apologizing for being so late for this review. I should have posted it in November, but for some reason I didn’t. Then Covid hit out house and December was a blur. I’m just now rejoining the land of the living, and so here you go, late but worth the wait.

It’s actually interesting that I should be writing this review right now because as I write this, I have my daughter and son-in-law and toddler granddaughter visiting us. So, Generation to Generation: Passing on a Legacy of Faith to Our Children is a pretty relevant topic to me. I love the concept of this book. It’s written by Yael Eckstein. Her father, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founded the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. When he passed away unexpectedly in 2019, Yael took over the work of her father. When Yechiel first began working to join together Christians and Jews, Pat Robertson was quick to step forward and work with him. Now, Pat Robertson’s son, Gordon Robertson, is helping promote the organization. Both Pat and Gordan wrote previews for the book.

The idea of Generation to Generation is showing how God has always used the family unit to pass along a spiritual foundation. It’s a crucial concept to the Jews, but not as well understood by Christians. Yael is teaching parents and grandparents how to pass along a legacy of faith. In each chapter she takes a Jewish tradition, explains the meaning behind it, then shares how Christians can apply the principles to teach their children. For example, the Shabbat teaches priorities. Passover teaches the importance of seeking knowledge. Purim teaches courage.

In addition to the book for the parents, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) has a Holy Land Moments coloring book with scripture, teaching, and beautiful illustrations to color.

While this is an excellent resource for parents, it’s also a wonderful book for anyone interested in better understanding the Hebrew holidays, Jewish heritage, or just Bible history.

If you’re a parent or grandparent, I encourage you to check out Generation to Generation. Not only is it an interesting read, but it will inspire you to new ways to pass along a spiritual legacy to future generations.
