Winning Over the Baker book review

Winning Over the Baker is a Love Inspired contemporary romance that’s very much like a Hallmark movie. The moment I saw the catchy title and charming cover, I couldn’t wait to read it.

Without losing her heart?

She wasn’t counting on the single dad’s plans for a bakery right across the street or the competition it’ll bring. Book Review

Love Inspired recently changed their cover style, and I love the change. Winning Over the Baker may well be my favorite Love Inspired cover. The color design and title caught my attention from the beginning.

As excited as I was to read Winning Over the Baker, I’ve got to admit, when I first began reading, I wasn’t a fan. Like many Hallmark movies, the concept felt a little simplistic and cheesy.

Honestly, if I’d not been reading it to review, I’m not sure I would have kept reading past the first chapter or so. However, I kept reading, and I’m glad I did. The story definitely grew on my, and as the story progressed, several twists and turns caught me by surprise.

Though I’m not a tea drinker, and I can’t recall ever visiting a bakery, I could picture each store. I appreciate the commitment and work that the two main characters put into their businesses. I love the way they each incorporate products from local farms and the local beekeeper.

So often, authors write about business ownership, but they have no clue what it’s like. Author Danielle Thorne obviously understands what’s really involved. She shows the challenges business owners face, especially when trying to run a business on their own.

I generally prefer romances without children, however, I really enjoyed the two young teen daughters. These girls are layered and nuanced, likeable yet insecure. And their relationship with their parents is spot on real.

If you enjoy Hallmark movies and are looking for a sweet story in a similar style, check out Winning Over the Baker by Danielle Thorne.
