I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw the The Prayer Bible, but of course, I’m all about prayer, so I quickly signed up to review the release of the NIV version of The Prayer Bible. I’m glad I did.
Appearance

The Prayer Bible is a pretty Bible. It comes in hardcover or Leathersoft. I love Leathersoft, so I got the burgandy option. Rather than just a plain cover, it has a tone-on-tone vine design at the top, a solid band along the bottom, and a very simple gold square with the title.
I like the size of the Bible. It’s a good size for carrying to church.

Review
My first thought when I opened up The Prayer Bible was where are all the extras? What makes this Bible unique? I didn’t see it at first. All I saw was a very straightforward Bible.
Then I realized. That’s the strength of this Bible. It’s all about the reader drawing near to God through the Word and prayer. The very features that make it simple are the ones that make it strong.
With each chapter of the Bible, you get a prayer prompt. These prompts aren’t the simplistic sample prayers I expected, but are each a paragraph or two that ties in the events of that passage with our relationship with God. Every one I read gave me insight to ponder.
The wide margins allow plenty of room to write out prayers. With each chapter you read, you can write out a short prayer related to that chapter. Imagine, then, coming back at a later time and reading all your prayers. What a blessing that would be!
Also included in the back of The Prayer Bible is a list of prayers included in the Bible. A number of years ago, I led a prayer retreat for the women at our church. We looked at what is prayer. What is prayer supposed to look like? How do we know what or how to pray?
The best place to find answers to these, and all our many other questions about prayer, is to look at examples of prayer in the Bible. The Prayer Bible helps with that.
If you’re looking for a pretty Bible to carry to church or a Bible to sit on your nightstand for your morning or evening prayer time, check out The Prayer Bible.
