My first teaching job out of college was a Christian school on the other side of town. It required a 45 minute commute each way, and I’d listen to the radio while driving. Each afternoon on the way home, the station would play a short segment with Dr. Tony Evans. I loved listening to him preach. He spoke truth that resonated with my heart.

Through the years I’ve rejoiced each time I got to hear him and one year at NRB convention, we were blessed to meet him and his lovely wife in person. So when I got the opportunity to review his new study Bible, I couldn’t wait.

I knew it would be helpful, but I had no idea how inspiring I would find the Tony Evans Study Bible. First, it’s a beautifully bound leather tome that just feels special. It’s soft and supple and makes you want to carry it around. But it’s so much more than a beautiful book.

The Tony Evans Study Bible is packed with features, many of which I haven’t begun to be able to fully appreciate yet. It includes inspirational articles, concordance, maps, reading plan, devotionals, and more. There’s even links to video lessons that tie in with scripture passages. The back matter has study helps like a harmony of the gospels, doctrines related to parables, miracles, and the ten commandments, and definitions of key terms of the gospel… none of which I’ve even used yet. No, so far I’ve been busy reading through Ezra and appreciating Tony Evans’ notes, outlines, and footnotes. It’s like Dr. Evans is sitting beside me, giving me extra insight into everything I read. I feel a little like the Jewish eunuch when Philip came up beside him and began to explain to him the scripture he was struggling to understand.

I have many Bibles, but the Tony Evans Study Bible is what’s sitting on my nightstand, ready for indepth study. It’s right there with my Children’s Ministry Study Bible, and my Women’s Ministry Study Bible, each offering me unique insights that I haven’t found in other Bibles. If I were limited to only one Bible, this is the one I’d choose. It’s that good. And the good news – I get to give away a Tony Evans Study Bible to one lucky reader. To register comment below with which of the above features you think you would use the most. A winner will be chosen at random on November 30, so don’t delay.

The Tony Evans Study Bible sounds awesome!! There are several features I’m sure I would enjoy using, but the one that grabbed my attention is the footnotes and insight from Mr. Evans throughout the book. Like you said, it would be like having him sit next to you and sharing his thoughts on the Word as you’re reading it!

  4. Oh yeah, sounds good so I’m definitely leaving a comment!!! The doctrines related to the parables feature sounds really interesting to me ❤ Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  5. I’d love to use the study helps and the commentary throughout it!

  6. When I lived in Texas I was able to attend the church he founded, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, for a time. My favorite feature would be the the links to the video lessons. It would be the next best thing to sitting in his congregation.

  7. The back matter sounds like it would be so cool to dive into. I would also love to see the footnotes at the end.

  8. Congratulations to Diane Vaden, winner of the Tony Evans Study Bible!
