Enduring Word Study Bible review

Whenever I see a new study Bible, I get excited. Each one offers a specific focus, and I discover new insights from different perspectives. In the case of the Enduring Word Study Bible, I wasn’t sure what the perspective would be. but I liked the subtitle: Pastoral Commentary From Every Chapter of the Bible.

The commentary in Enduring Word Study Bible is by David Guzik. I wasn’t familiar with him, so I looked him up. He’s the author of Enduring Word Commentary, host of “Through the Bible” and “Enduring Words with David Guzik” podcasts, and host of “Enduring Word” radio show.

Bible Review

So often, I’m reading a passage in the Bible, and something stands out to me, but when I check the notes, there’s no mention of that particular verse. Since this Bible was supposed to cover every chapter, I hoped it would include each verse. It does.

I’m pretty sure Enduring Word Study Bible has more commentary than any other study Bible I’ve read. Some pages are almost evenly dividied between Scripture and notes. It literally has notes for every verse, which is exactly what I was looking for. The notes are practical in nature rather than deep in theology.

Though there are application notes scattered throughout the Bible, I found them unobtrusive. If I chose to use them, they were there, but they weren’t distracting. I’m thinking they would be useful for pastors looking for themes for their sermons on specific passages.

I always like a pretty Bible, and Enduring Word Study Bible, though plain, feels quality. It comes in hardback, Leathersoft, and bonded leather. The Leathersoft and bonded leather have gold edges.

The pages are packed pretty tightly with text, but since it uses Comfort Print, it’s fairly easy to read.

Because of the extensive commentary, The Enduring Word Study Bible is a thick and heavy Bible. It may not be your first choice for carrying to church, but it’s an excellent one to have on your nightstand or kitchen table to use for your daily Bible reading.
