Boonville Redemption Movie Review

I have always enjoyed period movies, especially turn of the century western stories, so I was excited to have the opportunity to review Boonville Redemption. It’s the story of 13-year-old Melinda, a girl born out of wedlock, searching for the truth about her father. At first everyone in town is afraid to talk to her but eventually the truth comes out.

Boonville Redemption is a beautifully shot film with authentic locations, wardrobe, and hairstyles. It has a talented cast of familiar names like Pat Boone, Edward Asner, Diane Ladd, and Shari Rigby, and introduces young Emily Hoffman. The lead actors each did a great job, especially Shari and Emily. Shari brought such an earnestness to her role as the mom, and Emily held her own with the veteran cast members.

The weakness of the movie is the script. While the plot itself is intriguing and kept me watching to find out what happens, the writing would have benefited from a script doctor fine tuning the dialogue and characterization. Also, the spiritual elements felt tagged on instead of integral to the story. Nevertheless, it has plenty going for it, and if you enjoy period movies, you should find it enjoyable.

Note: I was given an online screener link to the movie but was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.
