The New Testament For Everyone Bible Review

I love reviewing Bibles, checking out the various features of each one. To be honest, however, when I agreed to review The New Testament For Everyone, I didn’t realize it was an actual Bible. I thought it was a reference book similar to The Old Testament Handbook. It wasn’t until I opened it up to write the review that I realized this is an actual Bible translation of the New Testament.

The New Testament For Everyone Summary

The New Testament For Everyone by N.T. Wright was first published in 2011 by The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. A paperback edition was published in 2019 as The Kingdom New Testament. Now this is the third edition published by Zondervan.

It’s a sturdy hardback book with a vintage style design on the cover. It makes me think of The Good News for Modern Man.

In the introduction N.T. Wright explains his process of studying and translating the Bible and the choices he made. He also explains the different types of books in the New Testament — the Gospels, Acts, Letters, and Revelation.

Each book opens with a short summary of the book. Other features include a glossary and an alphabetical list of the books.

The New Testament For Everyone Review

I’m not generally a fan of modern or simplistic translations of the Bible, but I appreciate what N.T. Wright has accomplished with The New Testament For Everyone.

The style of this Bible reminds me of when I was teaching school and later children’s church. I always tried to to tell the Bible stories in a way that the children could understand and appreciate. That’s what this Bible does.

This is a Bible for those who are new to Bible study or are overwhelmed by the Bible. This makes Scripture accessible and understandable to Bible newbies. It’s written in a conversational style that invites further reading and study.

It’s not intended to be a deep theological translation, but instead is designed to foster an appreciation and encourage further study.

The New Testament For Everyone would make a great gift idea for someone who might never pick up a traditional Bible. It reads like a modern book rather than ancient text.

This is probably not the Bible you’re going to grab and take to church with you, but if you’re feeling a desire to delve into Scripture but don’t know where to start, this would be a great place to start. The stories and text will come to life for you and provide a greater appreciation for the story of Jesus and the early church.
