Bible Review: Alexander Maclaren Study Bible

I love reviewing Bibles! Each one is unique, offering a different approach to the timeless Word of God. I’m especially drawn to those that feature insights from preachers and commentators from days gone by. The Alexander Maclaren Study Bible is one of those.

Though I wasn’t familiar with Alexander Maclaren, I discovered he was a nineteenth century preacher known as the “Prince of Expositors,” He was considered one of the best preachers of his time, known for his biblical insights expressed in a poetic style.

Alexander Maclaren Study Bible cover options

As I’ve mentioned many times, I love a pretty Bible, and though this one is simple, it’s classy. The order form calls it Leathersoft with stained edge. I’m not sure exactly what that means. The spine is the Leathersoft. The rest has a textured grain with a subtle diamond design going along the left side. It has a timeless look.

The Alexander Maclaren Study Bible comes in NKJV, my favorite version of Scripture.

This is a Bible that packs in a bunch of features. The pages include footnotes, cross references between the columns, and study notes interspersed throughout the Scripture. Fortunately, it’s Comfort Print, so it’s fairly easy to read. Still, it could be a bit bunch if you have trouble focusing.

The concordance is the most extensive I’ve ever seen included in a Bible.

If you’re looking for a timeless study Bible, the Alexander Maclaren Study Bible would be an excellent choice. It would also make a great gift for men or women.
